A wet weekend is in store with scattered showers giving way to persistent rain tomorrow evening, according to Met Éireann.

Low pressure will continue to influence our weather bringing rain followed by breezy, showery conditions with temperatures slightly milder than average for the time of year.

It will be mostly cloudy this morning with scattered showers, some heavy in western coastal counties. Conditions will become drier further east during the morning hours, the meteorological office adds.

However a band of more prolonged showers will reach the west around lunchtime and move eastwards across the country during the afternoon and evening.

Highest temperatures of 7° to 10° are expected, with light southwesterly breezes to veer northwesterly and gradually freshen during the day, becoming strong on southwestern coasts.

Tonight will see showers continue, with these becoming mainly confined to the western half of the country.

Elsewhere long clear spells will develop, turning cold with patches of grass frost forming. Lowest temperatures of 0° to 5° are forecast, holding a degree or two milder in western coastal regions.

Westerly winds will be mostly moderate, fresh at times near coasts.

Farming and field conditions

Drying and spraying conditions will be generally limited over the coming week with tomorrow looking to be the best day for both.

Regarding field conditions, soils are currently saturated with poorly drained soils waterlogged nationwide.

Soil conditions will worsen over the next few days with more moderately drained soils becoming waterlogged.

However, there will likely then be an improvement during the early days of next week. Poor field trafficability can be expected, the meteorological office added.

Tomorrow

Scattered showers in the morning will slowly become more isolated during the day, Met Éireann says.

It will be dry in many areas in the afternoon with good sunny spells; however, cloud will thicken in the southwest during the day.

Highest temperatures will range from 6° to 10°, mildest in southern coastal regions. Moderate southwesterly winds will ease light in the afternoon.

Tomorrow night will see persistent and at times heavy will arrive in the southwest early in the night and slowly spread northeastwards to all areas as winds strengthen.

Lowest temperatures of 0° to 5° are given, occurring early in the night and becoming much milder with the progression of rain. Southwest winds will increase fresh to strong and gusty.

Sunday

Rain will linger in the eastern half of the country Sunday morning, possibly turning heavier at times, Met Éireann says.

Brighter conditions with showers further west will extend nationwide during the afternoon, with some showers heavy.

A mild day is forecast with highest temperatures of 8° to 11°. Moderate to fresh southerly winds will increase strong in southern coastal counties during the afternoon.

Showers will continue during the night and remaining breezy with fresh and gusty southerly winds. Lowest temperatures of 5° to 8° are expected, Met Éireann says.
