A two-year-old pedigree-registered Charolais heifer or €1,500 will be the top prize in a raffle at Ballylinan GAA Oskars and the cast of Fr. Ted – New Jack, New City which will be held in Clanard Court Hotel, Athy, on Sunday, May 5 at 8:00p.m.

The community of Ballylinan and the surrounding areas have come together to raise funds to provide a purpose built walking track on the grounds of Ballylinan GAA Club.

The walking track aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment for both young and old to exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

Over 100 local people have come together as actors, crew and support teams to act in, produce and shoot clips from seven well-known movies for the Ballylinan Oskars 2024.

The actors will be coached and mentored by Kevin Rowe Events to ensure a top class Oskars event. The movies will be shot in Ballylinan and surrounding areas, giving them a real local spin.

Ballylinan GAA is asking for donations to support the actors and this important club fundraiser to enhance services in the community.

This is one of a number of fundraisers planned with each Oskars movie having their own fundraisers, from car washes to tractor runs to bingo Loco and table quizzes.

“Our club holds an important place at the heart of the community since 1926. Ballylinan GAA club facilitates teams of gaelic footballers from under 5s to seniors, is supported by a band of highly dedicated volunteers, and provides an important hub for locals in our clubhouse and grounds,” said club member, Conor Ryan.

The approximate cost for floodlighting the track and the surface of the track is €70,000, he said.

“There will be seven films in total but it is the cast of the Fr Ted film that has put the heifer forward as its fundraiser. The hope is that each film will raise €7,000,” said Conor.

Second prize in the raffle will be a pallet of 27% CAN fertiliser or €700 and third prize will be a pallet of GAIN wean and build feed or €350. Tickets cost €10 each or six for €50. The draw will take place on May 5.

“Roll out the red carpet, a cinematic extravaganza awaits. The event promises an evening of fun, glamour, and Hollywood-inspired entertainment,” the organisers said.
