Teagasc Green Acres Calf to Beef Programme webinar takes place tonight

The Teagasc Green Acres Calf to Beef Programme manager, Alan Dillon, will facilitate tonight’s ‘Let’s Talk Cattle and Sheep’ webinar – which runs every second Wednesday for beef and sheep farmers.

Tonight, at 6:30pm, Alan will be joined by dedicated programme advisors Seán Cummins and James Fitzgerald to outline their experience on working with the programme’s farmers; they will also be on-hand to answer any questions you may have.

The programme is in its second phase with phase two beginning in 2019. 12 farmers located throughout the country are working with the dedicated advisors to improve profitability on their farms.

Both Alan, Seán and James – along with each farmer – design a system that utilises high volumes of grazed grass, purchase dairy calves of adequate beef merit at value, and make excellent-quality silage to minimise concentrate input during the winter-finishing period.

Topics to be covered:
  • What makes a profitable calf-to-beef system;
  • Purchase prices of calves;
  • Nutritional management of calves;
  • Finishing systems.
