Status Yellow rainfall warnings issued

Met Éireann has issued Status Yellow rainfall warnings.

It said that blustery spells of heavy rain can be expected in affected regions.

From 6:00p.m until midnight tonight (Friday, June 5), a rainfall warning is in place for Co. Cork.

In neighbouring Co. Waterford, a rain warning is in place from 9:00p.m tonight until 3:00a.m on Saturday morning.

Potential impacts include: spot flooding; difficult travel conditions; and impaired visibility.

Unsettled weekend ahead

Met Éireann has forecast an unsettled weekend ahead for the country, with rain or showers each day along with breezy conditions at times.

Today will bring an improvement to most places for a time, as it won't be as showery or as breezy as of late.

There will be some sunny spells too for a while, the best of these across the east and north and it will stay dry generally in the east.

However, there will still be scattered showers.

It will be a cloudy and wet start to Saturday for most, with further outbreaks of rain, heavy in places for a while, before easing.

Saturday night will bring a good deal of cloud overall, with rain and drizzle, mainly for the south-west, west and north-west.

Sunday will be cloudy in all areas with outbreaks of rain becoming widespread from the west through the morning, some of it heavy.

Blight

Met Éireann has issued a potato blight advisory across the country.

The advisory will come into effect from 1:00a.m tomorrow (Saturday) and will remain in place until midnight on Monday.

Weather conditions conducive to the spread of potato blight will develop in many areas, Met Éireann said.
