Dairygold has announced the appointment of Sean O’Brien as a new director of the board of Dairygold.

O’Brien was appointed after an election which took place earlier today (Friday, December 4), the southern cooperative noted.

The board vacancy arose in the East Cork Region due to the resignation of Edmund Lynch, who has since been appointed to the board of Ornua.

O’Brien, who hails from Girlough Farm, Ballinascartha, Midleton, Co. Cork, has been a member of the East Cork Regional Committee since 2005 and the General Committee since 2010.

O’Brien is married to Bernadette and they have six children. He is a Nuffield scholar and holds a Diploma in Corporate Direction (Food Business) and a business degree from University College Cork (UCC).

Dairygold Ornua Board Nominee

Back in October, Dairygold nominated Lynch as its nominee to the new Ornua Board.

Lynch is a dairy farmer from Castlemartyr in east Cork. He has been a member of the Dairygold Board since January 2012 and served as vice chairman since January 2018.

Following his resignation, Lynch will be taking up the Ornua position next April, in accordance with Ornua’s new governance structures and requirements.

In the interim six-month period the Dairygold seat at the Ornua Board is being filled by former Department of Agriculture secretary general and former Dairygold board member, John Malone, the southern co-op confirmed.
