In the serene landscape of Camolin Co. Wexford, Felix J Bourne is spearheading a farming revolution driven by sustainability and innovation.

Felix, accompanied by his wife Siobhan Bourne and daughter Mia in Kilbora house, have not only revitalised their land, but also reshaped their farming ethos by using Supersoil products.

With a keen awareness of the adverse effects of excessive spraying and fertiliser use, Felix and his family turned to Supersoil as a solution.

He said: “At its essence, Supersoil is about rejuvenating the soil. We sought to regenerate the soil and restore its natural vitality.”

Their decision to integrate Supersoil into their farming practices yielded remarkable results: “We witnessed a significant increase in bales per acre,” Felix said.

While they previously harvested an average of 119 bales/18ac this year, they reaped a staggering 197 bales.

Moreover, the quality of their yield surpassed expectations, with the silage emitting a delightful aroma and boasting a rich, leafy texture.

However, what truly stood out was the transformation in their livestock: “We’re feeding the cattle a lot less,” Felix said, highlighting the efficiency of Supersoil in enhancing feed value.

With reduced feed requirements, their cattle are happier, healthier, and free from the scouring often associated with nitrate overload.

It’s important to note that Felix did utilise some chemical inputs alongside Supersoil in the cultivation of his silage. However, he emphasises that it was a conscious decision aimed at maintaining soil health.

“By using a balanced approach, incorporating both Supersoil and minimal chemical inputs, we were able to achieve better results,” he said.

Indeed, it was the synergy between these elements that contributed to their success.

Driven by sustainability

The benefits of Supersoil extend beyond crop yield and livestock health. Felix underscores the role of minerals, facilitated by Supersoil’s microbial activity, in enriching the grass and supporting lamb production.

“The microbes are working wonders, bringing minerals back up through the ground and into the grass,” he said, pointing to a month’s worth of mineral supplementation that used to be consumed in just a week.

As Felix surveys his land, he sees more than just grass and crops – he sees a sustainable future taking root.

“Supersoil has made a profound difference; not only in our harvest, but in the resilience of our land, and the well-being of our livestock.”

With each passing day, Felix and his family continue to nurture their land with the help of Supersoil, paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for farming in Camolin, Co. Wexford.
