Former Dawn Fresh Foods Fethard workers are set to meet top Government ministers this afternoon. In early August Dawn Fresh Foods in Fethard, Co Tipperary announced it was to close with the loss of 104 permanent positions.

Tipperary Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Tom Hayes TD organised this meeting in Dublin this afternoon for former workers of Dawn Fresh Foods in Fethard in South Tipperary with the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD. The meeting will also be attended by South Tipp County Council Cathaoirleach, Fine Gael’s Jimmy O’Brien.

Speaking ahead of that meeting, Minister Hayes said: “It’s important that workers are given the opportunity to speak to the minister. The food sector industry is facing a challenging time but I believe that given the right support, it is an industry that can thrive and tonight’s meeting will be an important step in trying to pave the way forward for the workers.”

The meeting is scheduled to take place in Dublin this evening and the minister said he will continue to push not just for the protection of existing jobs in Tipperary but also the creation of new employment opportunities.
