The value of total food and live animal exports to Great Britain (GB) in February 2024 was €310 million, according to data published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

Exports to GB were €1.2 billion, which was 8% of total exports in February 2024.

The products which accounted for the largest share of exports were chemicals and related products at €318 million and food and live animals with €310 million.

The exports of food and live animals to Great Britain rose by €15 million in the year to February.

€139 million of food and live animals were exported to Northern Ireland in February, the same value recorded in February 2023.

The export of dairy products and eggs from Ireland was worth €211 million in the second month of the year, down from €282 million in February 2023.

The value of live animal exports in February 2024 also fell when compared to the same month in 2023, from €45 million to €42 million this year.

The value of meat and meat preparation exports decreased by €3 million to €360 million in the year to February.

€345 million worth of food and live animals were exported to the European Union (EU) in February, a decrease from the €372 million exported in February 2023.

Irish food and live animal exports to the United States (US) in February 2024 totalled €55 million, a decrease of €13 million when compared to the same month last year.

CSO import figures

€45 million worth of cereal and cereal preparations were imported in February 2024, along with €154 million worth of vegetables and fruits.

There was €89 million worth of meat and meat preparations brought into the country, along with €96 million worth of dairy products and eggs, according to the CSO data.

The value of imports for feeding stuff for animals (excluding un-milled cereals) stood at €94 million, a significant drop from €125 million in February 2023.

The value of imports from Northern Ireland was lower, as €116 million in food and live animals were imported, a rise of €1 million since the previous year.

Imports of food and live animals from Great Britain were €205 million in February 2024, a rise of €8 million since February 2023.

€348 million of food and live animals were imported from the EU in February, an increase from the €316 million exported in February 2023.

Irish food and live animal imports from the US in February 2024 totalled €35 million, a decrease of €15 million when compared to the same month last year.
