A Co. Cork butcher has emerged victorious in the annual Easter lamb display challenge, hosted by the Irish Butchers’ Guild (IBG).
The challenge aims to showcase the finest in butchering craftsmanship, ingenuity and innovation, showcasing an array of creative lamb products.
Contenders from across Ireland vied for the champion’s crown, with Davidson’s Craft Butchers from Montenotte in Cork emerging victorious with a five-star award display.
Their exceptional display, featuring a diverse range of creative products and expert presentation, distinguished them from the other talented participants.
Expressing his delight, Chris Davidson of Davidson’s Craft Butchers acknowledged the skill and craftmanship of his team in this year’s effort, the excellence of local lamb and it’s remarkable versatility.
Other recipients of the five-star awards were Callaghan Butchers, Bettystown, Co. Meath, Corrigan Artisan Butchers, with stores in Drumcondra and Finglas, Dublin, Butcher’s Best, New Ross, Co. Wexford and Murphy’s Craft Butchers, Tullow, Co. Carlow.
Recipients of a four-star awards included Gorey based Furlong’s Butchers, Jim Crowley Craft Butchers from Midleton, Co. Cork and Co. Tipperary butchers, Martin O’Dwyers from Cashel.
Judges noted the impressive presentation, range and quality of products displayed, and inventive approach.
The event showcased an impressive variety of lamb-based creations such as lamb stuffed peppers with mint, French dressed guard of honour, Moroccan lamb pastry, Italian and herb meatballs, lamb onion bhajis, mint lamb twist, and Tandoori lamb shoulder.
Further products on display were spinach and feta cheese meatballs, lamb cushions, lamb koftas, Tuscan style belly of lamb, and shepherd’s pie lamb truffles.
Entries were evaluated on product range and quality, visual appeal, creativity, innovation, and craftmanship.
