Met Éireann has extended its Status Yellow rain warning to more counties.

In effect from 4:00a.m until 11:00a.m on Sunday (September 27), the warning is in place for Munster, Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan.

Heavy thundery rain and blustery conditions can be expected.Potential impacts include: localised flooding; poor visibility; and difficult travelling conditions.In addition, the combination of spring tides, surge, and strong onshore winds may result in wave overtopping along southern and south-eastern coastlines.

Weekend forecast

Met Éireann has updated its weather forecast for the weekend.

Today (Saturday) will bring sunny spells and well scattered showers this morning.

Cloud will increase during the afternoon and evening, and the showers will become more frequent.

The highest temperatures will be 15° to 20°, mildest in the east, with moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty south to south-west winds developing; strong in western and north-western coastal areas.

Saturday night

It will be largely dry early tonight with a mix of cloud, clear spells and isolated showers.

Cloud will build from the south-west with rain following for the latter half of the night, reaching all but north-eastern areas by morning.

The rain will be heavy or thundery in places, especially in southern areas, with localised flooding possible. 

It will be a wet start tomorrow with outbreaks of rain, heavy or thundery in places.

A clearance to sunny spells and isolated showers will develop in the south-west in the early morning, extending to the north-east by mid-afternoon.
