The weather this week will remain on the unsettled trend seen in recent days, with more persistent spells of rain developing from midweek, according to Met Éireann.

Today (Monday, August 31) will bring a good deal of dry weather for much of the day with some bright or sunny spells for a time and just a few scattered showers.

Cloud will increase through the day with showery rain moving into the west and north-west in the afternoon and evening.

Highest temperatures today will be 15° to 18° in mostly moderate, occasionally fresh, westerly winds, easing light to moderate south-westerly later.

Tonight will bring clear spells and a few scattered showers to the east and south. It will be rather cloudy in the north and west with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

Lowest temperatures tonight will be 9° to 14°, with a light to moderate south-westerly or variable breeze. Some mist and fog patches will develop.

Tuesday

Tomorrow (Tuesday, September 1) will bring a few bright or sunny spells early on to the east and south. Otherwise it will be a rather cloudy day with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, turning heavy in parts of the north.

Wet weather will develop in the south-west later in the day too.

Highest temperatures will be 15° to 19°, coolest in the north and warmest in the south, with a light to moderate south-westerly breeze.

Tomorrow night will become wet and breezy with rain moving up from the southwest, turning heavy at times.

It will feel humid, with lowest temperatures of 13° to 15°, with moderate to fresh southwest winds, strong and gusty at times along Atlantic coasts. It is expected to turn drier over Munster by morning.

Rest of week

Wednesday (September 2) is set to be a breezy day, with cloud and rain clearing northeastwards in the morning and early afternoon.

A mix of sunny spells and scattered showers will follow from the southwest.

Wednesday will be warmer than previous days, with highest temperatures of 18° to 22°, with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

Some bright or sunny spells and a few showers are forecast for Thursday (September 3), before wet weather becomes widespread from the Atlantic later in the day or overnight.

Highest temperatures should be 17° to 21° in moderate to fresh south-west winds, easing later.

Met Éireann said that, based on current indications, it will remain unsettled into next weekend, and it will also turn a bit cooler and fresher also.
