The weather this week is set to be largely changeable, with a mix of sunny spells and rain or showers at times, according to Met Éireann.

Today (Monday, September 14) will see a dry start for most, with sunny spells in the north and east, though outbreaks of rain and drizzle will develop in the south and west.

The rain will extend eastwards through the afternoon and evening, becoming heavy and persistent at times. Mist and hill fog will form too.

Highest temperatures will be 17° to 24°, warmest in the east, all in moderate south-westerly breezes.

Outbreaks of rain will gradually clear eastwards overnight, followed by a mix of scattered showers and clear spells. Mist patches will form too.

Lowest temperatures tonight will be 11° and 14° with moderate south-westerly winds, easing and becoming westerly with the clearance of the rain.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, September 15) will be a brighter day with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers spreading from the northwest.

It will feel fresher, with highest temperatures of 14° to 18° in light to moderate north-westerly breezes, fresher on the coast.

Scattered showers will become mainly confined to the north and west overnight tomorrow, with isolated showers elsewhere. Lowest temperatures will be 9° to 13° in light to moderate westerly breezes.

Wednesday (September 16) will see a mix of well-scattered showers and sunny spells in the morning, and it will remain dry for many.

However, cloud will begin to build in the west through the afternoon, bringing patches of drizzle. Highest temperatures will be 15° to 17° in a light to moderate westerly breeze.

Wednesday night will be cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving eastwards across the country before clearing to scattered showers.

Lowest temperatures will be 9° to 12° in moderate south-westerly winds.

Thursday (September 17) will see sunny spells and scattered showers, becoming blustery at times with moderate to fresh and gusty westerly winds.

It will possibly be cloudier with more persistent rain at times, particularly in the north. Highest temperatures are expected to be 14° to 17°.

Friday (September 18) will start dry with some sunny spells possible, though rain will develop through the day. Highest temperatures will be 14° to 18° in mostly moderate south-westerly breezes.

Met Éireann said it will remain quite changeable with further rain and showers in store for next weekend, though there will be dry and bright periods too. Daytime temperatures will range from the mid to high teens.
