Met Éireann warns of heavy rain in southern counties

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for rainfall in counties Cork and Kerry.

The national forecaster said there will be spells of heavy rain across the counties on Thursday night (June 18).

The conditions will bring a risk of spot flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

The warning is due to come into effect from 9:00p.m on Thursday until 12:00p.m on Friday (June 19).

Met Éireann said that the weather over the coming week will be "changeable and often unsettled".

Rainfall amounts are currently forecast to be above normal across the country with total of approximately between 20 and 50mm.

Temperatures will be a little higher during the next seven days, with mean values of 13° to 16°C.

Daytime temperatures will generally be in the mid to high teens at best, occasionally climbing into the low twenties, mainly in the east of the country.

Met Éireann said that drying conditions will be "moderate or poor" this week, as low pressure systems bring spells of rain and showers.

From Thursday there will be spells of more persistent rain, mixed with showers, so opportunities for spraying will be reduced.

Met Éireann has also issued an advisory for potato blight for the entire country over the coming days.

Weather conditions favourable for the spread of potato blight will occur at times today in some southern coastal counties.

These favourable conditions are expected to then extend nationwide tomorrow and Friday.
