Met Éireann said the August Bank Holiday weekend will bring mixed conditions, with more unsettled weather expected from Sunday.

Today (Friday, July 31), will be a bright day with sunny spells. Showers in the west and north will spread to other areas during the day before easing by evening.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 15° to 21°C, with highest values in the south and south-east.

South-westerly winds increasing light to moderate westerly through the day.

Tonight will be mainly dry with clear spells, some isolated showers are possible. Cloudier conditions will develop in the west, north and midlands.

Overnight lows of 7° to 11° in a light south-west breeze.

Weekend

Saturday will be dry for most parts with isolated light showers and sunny spells. Top temperatures of 16° to 22° in light to moderate westerly winds.

Saturday night will be mainly dry, but there is a chance of light rain or drizzle in the south-west. Lowest temperatures of 8° to 12°. Mist and fog patches will develop in the light variable breezes.

Sunday will be a cloudy day with light rain and drizzle, most likely in the south and west.

Highest temperatures of 17° to 21° with light to moderate east to south-east breezes.

Cloudy on Sunday night with rain and drizzle extending northwards across the country. It will feel mild as temperatures range from 12° to 16° in light to moderate easterly breezes.

Met Éireann said that there is some uncertainty in the forecast for Monday.

The forecast currently indicates it will be cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain.

It will be humid with highest temperatures of 17° to 23° with light to moderate easterly winds.

Tuesday currently looks to be a humid and cloudy day with widespread showers.

Although there is "low confidence" in the details of the forecast later next week, Met Éireann said it is likely the weather will remain changeable.

Met Éireann also said soil moisture deficits currently range from 8mm in the north and north-west to 88mm in the south-east.

Ground is generally hard way from the north-west and there is restriction to growth.

Very little change in soil moisture deficits is expected for the coming week.

Good drying conditions are expected today and Saturday, but conditions are expected to deteriorate from Sunday onwards with cloudier and wetter conditions expected.

Opportunities for spraying will become more limited from Sunday onwards, but due to the uncertainty around the forecast some areas may still have opportunities.
