The Ashberry herd is set to hold the sale of 100 pedigree registered freshly calved Holstein Friesian heifers.

All animals on offer at the sale have been export-tested and also have milk recording data available.

The sale will be hosted by Doyle, Hunt and Hunt in Mid-Tipperary Mart on Friday, February 23 at 11:30a.m.

This herd has an impressive average economic breeding index (EBI) of €230, with an average production of 7,200L, a fat content of 4.75% and a protein content of 3.7%.

Six heifers with an EBI exceeding €300 are also included in the sale.

These heifers hail from the renowned Ashberry herd, and were previously owned by Liam and Bernard Moore.

The herd is vaccinated against leptospirosis, salmonella, and infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), have excellent hoof health and have been bovine tuberculosis (TB) free for nearly 28 years.

A recent TB test on February 9 confirmed the herd’s clean health status.

At the sale of the Ashberry herd last year (2023), the top price of the sale went to Lot 10A – which sold for €3,850.

Five lots achieved a sale price of €3,000 or above.

This exceptional heifer had an EBI of €247 and was sired by Riverside Harold Srm (FR5848). She was projected to produce 6,865kg of milk at 3.87% fat and 3.31% protein in her first lactation, and her dam produced 7,712L in her third lactation.

Lot 10A sold for €3,850

Selling for €3,450 was Lot 23A, Ashberry Samir Aisling, who was sired by Killalough Samir (FR4439).

She had an EBI of €286 and was projected to produce 6,505kg of milk in her first lactation at 3.91% fat and 3.30% protein.

What was believed to be the highest EBI heifer to sell at auction in Ireland, was Lot 41, Ashberry Lorenzi Andrea.

She was sired by the Dovea Genetics bull Craganoir Lorenzo (FR5839) and with a milk sub-index figure of €71 and a fertility sub-index figure of €198. She sold for €3,250.

Selling for €480 was her heifer calf Ashberry Olaf Aisling. Born in January of 2023, she has an EBI of €285.
