A food company has confirmed one case of Covid-19 at a processing site in Co. Tipperary.
The Ribworld plant in Fethard, in the south of the county – part of the Karro Food business – saw one staff member identified as a close contact of another case or suspected case. That staff member subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.
A brief statement from the company said: “Karro Food can confirm that one of our colleagues was identified through contact tracing and subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.
They are now self-isolating at home.
“We subsequently implemented our own internal tracking procedure, in collaboration with the Health Service Executive [HSE], and sent all possible contacts of the affected worker for testing. All returned negative results,” the Karro Food statement added.

Meanwhile, the Rosderra Irish Meats facility in Clara, Co. Offaly, has seen four members of staff test positive for Covid-19.
The cases were confirmed after testing was carried out on 68 workers there.
The testing was carried out through a weekly testing programme for staff in the food processing sector that was introduced by the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
A full site test was carried out last Friday (August 21), Rosderra said.
The business said that it has told those four staff members and their contacts to self-isolate.
Rosderra said it is working to identify the source of transmission.

In related news, ABP has confirmed two cases of Covid-19 among its workforce at its plant in Clones, Co. Monaghan.
The beef processor said that it is in the process of testing all staff members at its Clones processing facility, which it said is a “precautionary measure” that will be carried out by a private company in conjunction with the HSE.
