Watch: Dublin Fire Brigade tackle straw bale blaze over weekend
Dublin Fire Brigade were called upon to tackle a hay bale fire in south Co. Dublin this weekend.
On social media yesterday (July 19), Dublin Fire Brigade said: “Smoke may be visible on the N4, close to the Hermitage Golf Course, as firefighters from Dolphins Barn and Tallaght attend hay bales on fire.”
The past two weeks have seen numerous rural, gorse and farm fires break out across the country.
Cork City Fire Brigade were called upon to tackle a “significant” gorse fire last week that threatened to spread to nearby houses.
The organisation said on social media: “Crews have been in attendance assisting our colleagues Cork County Fire at a significant gorse fire in Crosshaven.
“Firefighters worked tirelessly alongside each other for over four hours to bring the incident under control.
“Thanks to their coordinated efforts, the fire was successfully prevented from spreading to nearby homes, protecting local residents and property.”
Cork City Fire Brigade described the operation as a great example of teamwork, professionalism and dedication by all crews involved.
Kildare
Separately, Kildare County Council's Fire Service confirmed it was called out to a hayfield fire in Tomard, Athy, Co. Kildare recently.
The fire service told Agriland that it attended the field fire on Saturday, July 11.
It said: "Appliances from Athy and Stradbally (Laois Fire Service) were on scene from approximately 3:00pm to 5:15p.m.
"The fire service used a combination of beaters, backpack sprayers and hose lines to extinguish the fire."
It said that there is no indication as to the cause of the fire.
Killarney National Park
In another separate but related event, Minister for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan has blamed the outbreak of a wildfire, which damaged parts of Killarney National Park in Co. Kerry, on 'human activity'.
Kerry County Fire Services responded to a significant fire at Five Mile Bridge on the N71 Killarney to Kenmare Road on Tuesday evening (July 14).
Fire personnel from Kenmare, Killarney and Killorglin fire stations were on site working with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) fire team.
The NPWS deployed significant resources in tackling the fire including two helicopters.
The helicopters were used to extract water from the lake to quench the flames and control the fire.
