SIMA 2017 Video: Back to basics with Massey Ferguson’s Global Series

When much of the machinery world was investing in “big” machines, Massey Ferguson decided to change tack and develop an entirely new back-to-basics series of tractors.

The Massey Ferguson Global Series, which includes the 4700, 5700 and 6700 models, was developed to meet the market requirement for “modern small tractors.”

Designed with farming needs to the fore, the tractors are said to feature a “strong rear axle to lift modern-day implements”, while also providing “good fuel economy and comfort inside the cab”.

The latest update to the Global Series – the addition of a Visio roof to the 4700 Series – was on show at this week’s SIMA machinery show in Paris.

A ‘true’ global tractor

The first of the Massey Ferguson Global Series tractors began to roll off the production line last year.

Speaking to Agriland, Campbell Scott, Massey Ferguson Director of Marketing Services explained that the Global Series was set up as a true global tractor, as it can be built in all of the company’s factories around the world.

The European machines, he said, are built in France and are compliant with Tier-4 Final emissions legislation. The same tractors have also been launched onto the North American market.

Tier-2 versions are available in the Chinese, African and Russian markets, he said, while versions with and without cabs are also available.

Scott added that these tractors are available in a wide range of specifications to suit different countries and can be fitted with either shuttle or non-shuttle gearboxes.

The Global Series in detail…

According to Massey Ferguson, the 4700 Series offers a “highly-modern, high-performance, heavy-duty, straightforward” range of tractors that provides “exceptional efficiency for every type of farmer all over the world“.

The 4700 Series is available in 75-95hp versions and is powered by a “fuel efficient” 3-cylinder, 3.3L engine.

It also features a 12×12 synchronised transmission, which is claimed to “minimise power absorption”. These tractors are available in 2WD or 4WD.

The mid-point of the Global Series, the Massey Ferguson 5700 Series tractors are available from 110 to 130hp.

Powered by a 4-cylinder, 4.4L AGCO Power engine, the company says the electronically-controlled unit employs common-rail fuel injection, combined with “high airflow through the four-valve-per-cylinder configuration”.

The 6700 Series, says the company, follows the path set out by the other line-ups and is available in 112-132hp versions. These tractors are also powered by 4-cylinder, 4.4L AGCO Power engine.
