Met Eireann has issued a yellow rainfall warning in place for several counties this morning with accumulations of 15 to 30mm expected in parts.

Wexford, Cork, Kerry and Waterford will all be affected as a spell of heavy rain from last night and this morning hits the south of the country.

The highest rainfall will be in coastal and hilly areas with local spot flooding and the warning is in place until 12.00.

Elsewhere, it will become brighter this afternoon with sunny spells developing and scattered showers.

Met Eireann has said that showers will die away this evening with a dry end to the day, while winds will become moderate to fresh westerly this afternoon. Highest temperatures will range between 13 to 17 degrees, coolest in northern areas.

It is forecast to be dry early tonight with clear periods, but cloud and rain will spread off the Atlantic and extend to most places overnight.

Wednesday

Widespread rain is forecast for a time tomorrow morning but there will be brighter drier weather in the afternoon with sunny spells and scattered showers.

Highest afternoon temperatures tomorrow are expected in the region of 14 to 18 degrees Celsius in moderate to fresh southwest to westerly winds.

Wednesday night will be cool and mostly dry with clear periods and a few showers on Atlantic coasts. Overnight temperatures will range between 7 to 10 degrees.

Thursday

Thursday is forecast to be a cool and breezy day in places. There will be some bright periods in the morning but it will be mostly cloudy with rain developing for a time in most areas.

It will turn brighter but rather showery later and it will be cool with afternoon temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees Celsius.

Friday

Current indications suggest that Friday will be a cool, breezy and showery day with some prolonged showers in places but some drier periods as well.

It will be fresh and gusty westerly winds and afternoon temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees again.

Weekend Outlook

According to Met Eireann, it won’t be quite as cold over the weekend but it will still be unsettled with some showers at times, but dry bright periods as well.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to range between 16 to 18 degrees, possibly up to 20 degrees in some southern areas on Sunday.
