The renowned 'Goldstar Charolais Herd', owned by Martin Ryan and family from Thurles, Co. Tipperary, is set to host an online production sale this coming weekend from Friday, October 2, to Monday, October 5.

The annual Goldstar Charolais production sale will take place online, with viewing of the sale lots on the farm on Saturday, October 3, from 12 noon to 5:00p.m.

The Goldstar herd is based near Thurles, Co. Tipperary, and is well known in cattle breeding circles across Ireland and further afield as a herd that produces reputable, top-quality stock.

The herd has has enjoyed multiple championship successes at national level and has exported pedigree Charolais progeny to France, England, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and Czechia.

The Goldstar herd has bred multiple artificial insemination (AI) sires, and most pedigree Charolais breeders will agree genetics from the herd is often a key ingredient in the production of show champions.

The herd was started in 1996 and its core focus is on breeding females that will make excellent breeding cows.

The genetics is very much pure French and the herd frequently adds new French bloodlines to the herd.

According to Ryan: “This keeps new bloodlines available and adds genetic diversity and outcross options to our customers - whether returning or new.”

Some of the stock that were exported from the previous two sales have reigned supreme at multiple UK shows during the summer show season.

The sale will also include calved recipients with embryo calves at foot and a selection of embryos from the herds' top cows.

Why is this year's Goldstar sale so special?

This year's Goldstar sale sees numerous champions available in the 22 lots to be offered in the sale.

Some of the lots of particular interest will include:

Goldstar Blossom: Junior Female Champion from the National Livestock Show at Tullamore and the Irish Charolais Society’s National Calf Show;
Goldstar Avocado ET: A Reglisse daughter of Goldstar Sephora and a full sister of Avocado’s was National Champion at Tullamore this year and repeated the title at the Irish Charolais Calf Show, where Avocado stood reserve to her in the Senior Female Championship.

An embryo of the sale cross will also feature with the dam of this lot Goldstar Sephora having taken multiple championships and interbreed titles during the summer.

Sephora’s daughter Bastille, shown at foot with her during the past few months will also feature in the sale.

The sale will also include Goldstar Amaretto ET, a Neptune daughter of Goldstar Une Star.

Amaretto has collected several ribbons and Interbreed Calf Championships.

Stock in the sale are sired by renowned bulls such as Neptune, Ocean, Reglisse, Goldstar Echo, Roulio, Pinay, and Nevers.

The sale is being hosted by Mid Tipperary Co-Operative Livestock Mart, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, on the MartEye platform.

Last year, the timed auction attracted a record engagement and made for an exciting finish with several of the lots being hotly contested.

Bidding opens on Friday evening (October 2) and starts closing on a lot-by-lot basis from Monday evening, October 5 from 7:00pm.
