Mixed and breezy weather ahead with spells of rain and showers

The weather this week will be largely mixed, with spells of rain and showers, and some drier spells as well, in breezy or windy conditions at times, according to Met Éireann.

It will be mostly cloudy to begin today (Monday, October 12) with a few residual patches of drizzle, mist and fog. It will brighten up in parts for a time with some sunny spells in places.

However, outbreaks of rain and drizzle will push in from the Atlantic in the afternoon, mostly affecting western counties, and becoming persistent and heavier in the evening.

It will be mild for the time of year with highs of 14° to 19°C, but it will become breezy with the southerly winds becoming strong in Atlantic coastal parts.

Tonight, rain, heavy at times, in the west, will spread eastwards through the night with clearer conditions following, along with some blustery showers feeding in from the Atlantic.

Lowest temperatures will be 9° to 14°, with blustery southerly winds veering south-west and moderating.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, October 13) will bring sunny spells and scattered showers.

The showers, which will be heaviest and most frequent in Ulster with the chance of thunder, will become more isolated from the south through the afternoon.

Moderate to fresh and gusty west to south-westerly winds will ease later. Highest temperatures will be 13° to 16°, coolest in the northwest.

Tomorrow night is set to be mostly dry with clear spells, but becoming cloudier in the west and north-west where the odd spot of light rain or drizzle is possible.

Lowest overnight temperatures tomorrow night will be 8° to 12°, with light to moderate southerly winds, freshening and becoming strong in the west and north-west.

Wednesday (October 14) will be a windy day, but it will be mostly dry at first with some sunny spells and just a few patches of light rain or drizzle.

It will become cloudier in the west and north however, with rain following there in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures will be 14° to 17°, with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds.

Heavy rain on Wednesday night will effect the south-west, west and north, and will spread to the rest of the country on Thursday morning (October 15).

The rain will clear eastwards through Thursday morning and afternoon, with drier and brighter conditions following and just a few showers feeding into Atlantic coastal areas.

Highest temperatures will be 13° to 16°, with fresh southerly winds veering westerly and easing.

Aside from a few showers affecting the north for a time on Friday, Met Éireann said the further outlook suggests that an area of high pressure will bring dry, bright and settled weather for the remainder of the week and into next weekend.

However, it will turn colder both by day and night, the national forecaster said.
