Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in several eastern counties.

The national forecaster said there is a risk of heavy thundery showers and some lightning in counties Dublin, Louth and Meath.

The warning is valid from now until 7:00p.m tonight (Tuesday, August 4).

Met Éireann said there is a possibility of local lightning damage, spot flooding and difficult travelling conditions in the affected counties.

The UK Met Office has also issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Northern Ireland until 9:00p.m tonight.

The heavy showers and thunderstorms will bring some disruption to transport and outdoor events

In its latest farming commentary, Met Éireann said that the coming week will be changeable.

The north and northwest will be wetter than normal, while it is expected to drier than normal elsewhere with between 30% and 70% of normal rain.

During the coming 7 days, mean air temperatures are expected to be around average or even slightly below, ranging from 14° to 16°C, warmest in the south and east.

Mean soil temperatures are due to remain above average for the coming week, but will turn cooler.

Soil moisture deficits generally currently range from around 40mm to 85mm, with the driest conditions across the south and east.

Over the coming week, with some rain or showers in the forecast, values will drop a little, but not very significantly.
