Met Éireann has issued Status Yellow weather warnings for heavy rain across several western counties over the coming 24 hours.
The national forecaster said the alerts will apply to counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
The warning, which came into effect at 9:00a.m today (Thursday, October 8), is currently due to remain in place until 4:00a.m tomorrow.
The heavy spells of rain will lead to possible localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions.
According to Met Éireann, the weather will be mixed this week with rain or showers at times.
Most parts of the country will receive below average amounts of rainfall, particularly in Leinster where amounts are forecast to be less than 15mm.
The highest rainfall amounts, ranging from 30-50mm, are expected in the south-west, the west and the north-west.
Temperatures are expected to fluctuate with a mix of mild and cool days.
Overall average temperatures are expected to be a degree or two above normal levels. Soil temperatures are near or above normal, with values between 13° and 15.1°C.
Drying conditions will be moderate or poor this week, with opportunities for spraying limited.
Met Éireann said that rain and showers this week will result in field conditions deteriorating and soils becoming saturated or waterlogged.
