Met Éireann said this week's weather will bring a mixture of rain and dry periods, while it will also feel cooler at times.
Today (Monday, October 5) will be cloudy initially with light rain and drizzle, along with patches of mist and fog.
Drier conditions will develop in the south and east during the morning and afternoon with some brighter spells there.
Highest afternoon temperatures will be of 14° to 20°C, feeling coolest in the north-west, milder in the south and east.
The south-westerly winds will be mostly light to moderate, fresher in the north-west.
Tonight will be mainly dry in the south and east, outbreaks of rain and drizzle are expected elsewhere. Patches of mist and fog in places.
Overnight lows of 8° to 13° in light variable winds.
Tuesday will start cloudy with rain and drizzle which will clear later to sunny spells and showers in the west and north.
However, the cloud and patchy rain may linger in the south and east for much of the day.
Highest temperatures will reach just 11° to 14° in most areas, a little milder further south where highs will range from 14° to 18°. Northerly breezes will be light to moderate.
Rain in the south-east will clear on Tuesday night to leave a mainly dry night with clear spells. Some showers may develop in the west and north.
It will be a colder night with lows of 3° to 7° in light west to north-west breezes.
Wednesday will be a cool and bright day with sunshine and a few showers, mainly in the west and north. Highest temperatures of 11° to 14° in moderate to fresh north-westerly winds.
Dry in most parts on Wednesday night, some isolated showers affecting the west and north. Light to moderate north-westerly breezes and lowest temperatures of 5° to 10°.
Following a dry morning with sunny spells on Thursday, cloud will extend across the country bringing rain and drizzle, the heaviest falls in the west and north.
Highest temperatures of 12° to 15° with light north-westerly winds veering south-westerly and freshening.
Friday will be wet and breezy at first, the rain will clear during the morning and afternoon to leave sunny spells and scattered showers.
Highest daytime temperatures of 13° to 17°. Moderate to fresh south-westerly winds will veer westerly and ease later.
The current outlook shows some showers in the west and north on Saturday, while Sunday will be a wetter day.
The latest farming commentary from Met Éireann shows that rainfall amounts over the coming week will be below average.
Values will range between 9% of the average in the south-east and 71% of the average in the north-west, which equates to 2-19mm of rain.
Overall, mean air temperatures will be between 1° and 2° above average. Soil temperatures will remain above average.
Drying conditions this week will be mostly moderate to poor, spraying opportunities will become increasingly limited.
Met Éireann said that all soils are saturated or close to saturation with moderately and poorly drained soils in the north-west, midlands, south and south-east waterlogged.
Soil moisture deficits will generally increase this week, with all waterlogged moderately drained soils becoming saturated and waterlogged poorly drained soils in the east and south-east becoming saturated.
