Met Éireann: Warm with plenty of dry weather this weekend

Met Éireann said there will be plenty of dry weather over the weekend, along with warmer temperatures.

The latest forecast shows this morning (Friday, June 19) will be cloudy with rain and drizzle, along with patches of mist and fog in places.

A Status Yellow weather warning for heavy rain for Cork, Kerry and Waterford will remain in place until 9:00a.m this morning.

The rain and drizzle will clear to scattered showers and sunny spells later in the day.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 15° to 21°C, warmest in the east and south, with light to moderate southerly breezes turning westerly.

Clear spells and scattered showers initially tonight, but turning mainly dry by morning. Patches of mist and fog will form in the light, variable breezes. Overnight lows of 7° to 11°.

Weekend weather

Saturday will be a dry day with sunny spells, some isolated showers in the north-west are possible in the morning.

Afternoon temperatures will reach highs of 15° to 22° in light to moderate westerly or variable breezes.

Dry with clear spells and light, variable winds on Saturday night. Some patches of fog and mist will form in the calm conditions. Lowest temperatures of 6° to 11°.

Mist and fog will clear on Sunday morning to leave a dry day with sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 17° to 23°, feeling coolest on eastern coasts where there will be a light easterly breeze.

Apart from a few light showers on northern coasts, Sunday night will be dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 11° to 14° in a light easterly or variable breeze.

Monday will be a warm day with a mix of cloud and sunny spells.

Heavy showers are expected to push in from the south and mainly affecting Leinster and Munster. Thunderstorms are possible too. Highest temperatures of 20° to 25° in a light southerly or variable winds.

The showers will clear on Monday night, to leave mostly dry conditions, some light showers possible in the north and west.

It will be another mild night with overnight temperatures ranging from 12° to 16° in light to moderate south to south-west winds.

Cloud will build in most areas on Tuesday, with some patchy rain or drizzle possible in the north-west.

The current outlook for next week indicates that warm conditions may continue with the potential for showers too.

Met Éireann said that over the coming week, mean air temperatures will be between 1° and 3° warmer than usual, with mean values of 14° to 17°. Mean soil temperatures will increase too.

Better drying conditions will develop over the weekend and early next week.

Opportunities for spraying will improve for this weekend away from some showers.

Soil moisture deficits are expected to generally increase gradually over the coming week.

Weather conditions conducive to the spread of potato blight will continue today and clear tomorrow morning.
