Met Éireann extends weather warning for heavy rain

Met Éireann has extended its Status Yellow weather warning for heavy rain to include an additional county.

The national forecaster had originally warned of spells of heavy rain tonight (Thursday, June 18) in Cork and Kerry.

This warning has now been extended to include Co. Waterford.

The heavy rain will bring a risk of spot flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

The weather warning is due to come into force from 9:00p.m tonight and remain in place until 9:00a.m on Friday (June 19).

Met Éireann

In its latest farming commentary, Met Éireann said overall, rainfall amounts forecast to be above normal nationwide over the coming week.

Accumulations will be approximately between 20 and 50mm which is between 120% and 260% of the average generally.

Temperatures will be a little higher during the next seven days, with mean values of 13° to 16°C expected which is 1° or 2° warmer than normal for most areas.

Mean soil temperatures are forecast to continue above normal.

Drying conditions will be mainly moderate or poor today and tomorrow.

Met Éireann said some better opportunities are expected to develop over the weekend, especially in the south and east.

Opportunities for spraying will be limited until the weekend with the best spraying conditions expected for the south and east.

Met Éireann has also issued an advisory for potato blight.

Weather conditions favourable for the spread of blight will extend nationwide today, Friday and Saturday morning
