Clare Marts in Ennis, Co. Clare hosted its suckler and weanling sale on Tuesday (September 22), with almost 800 head on offer in the sale.

Speaking to Agriland after the sale, mart manager Martin McNamara said that there was a good entry of stock at the weanling sale with some "nice quality suckling stock available also".

He said that in-calf entries made up to €3,100 with cows and calves at foot making over €3,000 in cases also.

He said that the runner heifers and bulls were "a great trade" with two 195kg Angus-cross bulls selling for for €810 or €4.15/kg.

The mart manager also added that there were more farmer buyers active in this week's sale overall.

The weanling bulls in the sale made up to €7.86/kg for a 225kg Charolais bull that made €1,770.

Other notable weanling bull prices from the sale included:

Two 260kg Charolais bulls sold for €1,940 or €7.46/kg;
A 275kg Belgian Blue bull sold for €1,920 or €6.98/kg;
A 475kg Charolais bull sold for €2,580 or €5.43/kg.

A 290kg Belgian Blue bull sold for €2,000 or €6.89/kg.
A 280kg Limousin bull sold for €1,960 or €7.00/kg.
Two 357kg Limousin bulls sold for €2,200 or €6.15/kg.

In the weanling heifer sale, prices reached over €6.00/kg in several cases.

A 220kg Charolais heifer sold for €1,410 or €6.41/kg and another 340kg Limousin heifer sold for €2,100 or €6.17/kg.

Scariff Mart in Co. Clare hosted its general cattle sale on Saturday (September 19), with 50% of the stock on offer being spring-2025-born bullocks and the balance made up of weanling heifers and bulls.

Weanling bulls sold to over over €6.00/kg in the sale and weanling heifers making over €5.00/kg.

Sample bullock prices from the sale:

Four Hereford bullocks with an average weight of 474kgs sold for €1,780 or €3.75/kg;
A 400kg Angus bullock sold for €1,530 or €3.82/kg;
Five Angus bullocks with an average weight of 453kg sold for €1,750 or €3.86/kg;
Four Hereford bullocks with an average weight of 435kg sold for €1,670 or €3.84/kg;
Five Hereford bullocks with an average weight of 390kg sold for €1,580 or €4.05/kg.

Two Limousin bulls with an average weight of 215kg sold for €1,400 or €6.51/kg and another 285kg Charolais bull sold for €1,800 or €6.32/kg.

A 295kg Limousin heifer sold for €1,580 or €5.35/kg and another two weanling heifers with an average weight of 242kg sold for €1,300 or €5.36/kg.
