Clare Co-Operative Marts held its sheep sale in Ennis Mart, Co. Clare on Monday (November 2) with trade resembling recent weeks' sales.

Lambs averaged €3.72/kg, while the higher quality lots on show breached €200.

Despite a smaller sale, mart manager Martin McNamara said trade was "similar to last week" with almost 430 sheep on offer.

Sample of lamb prices at Ennis Mart:

Six lambs weighing 55kg sold for €212/head, or €3.85/kg;
A pen of 12 lambs weighing 56kg on average sold for €206/head, or €3.68/kg;
A pen of 10 lambs weighing 50.5kg on average sold for €198/head, or €3.92/kg;
Six lambs weighing 45kg each sold for €178/head, or €3.95/kg;
A pen of 20 lambs weighing 50.5kg on average sold for €188/head, or €3.72/kg.

Cull ewes

The mart manager said that the trade for cull ewes also resembled last week's sale.

Sample of cull ewe prices at Ennis Mart:

Seven ewes weighing 70kg each sold for €170/head, or €2.43/kg;
Four ewes weighing 88kg sold for €188/head, or €2.14/kg;
A pen of 19 ewes weighing 77kg on average sold for €170/head, or €2.21/kg.

This steady trend at the sales ring resembles the firm factory prices being achieved for both lambs and cull ewes.
