Sheep trade: Factory prices firm as heavy lambs hit €215/head at marts

This week's sheep trade sees no real movement in the factory lamb price, weight limits, or cull ewe price offers.

There were almost 800 sheep on sale at Kilkenny Mart today (Monday, November 2) with auctioneer George Candler reporting "a good solid trade for lambs".

He said that most lambs in excess of 50kg ranged from €184-€215/head.

Factory lambs met what the auctioneer described as "a steady trade" but said there were more customers for store lambs.

He also noted that the cull ewe trade was easier compared to the last few weeks.

A pen of 12 lambs weighing 55kg sold for €215/head or €3.91/kg.

Another pen of 15 lambs weighing 48kg sold for €181/head.

In the store lamb trade, a pen of 10 lambs weighing 35kg sold for €130/head or €3.71/kg.

Another pen of 14 store lambs with an average weight of 33kg sold for €114/head or €3.45/kg.

Cull ewes sold from €100-€230/head.
