The first day of the National Ploughing Championships 2026 officially begins today (Tuesday, September 15) in Co. Offaly.

The three-day event, which is returning to Screggan, Tullamore, is expected to attract tens of thousands of people from across the country.

Over 380 competitors are due to take part in a total of 34 ploughing classes during the 95th championships.

There will also be a group of international ploughing competitors on site for the Five Nations Ploughing Competition.

Away from the ploughing fields, there will be plenty of attractions for visitors of all ages covering machinery, livestock, food, fashion shows and innovation.

According to Met Éireann, the weather for Europe's largest outdoor agricultural trade exhibition is expected to be largely changeable, with a mix of sunny spells and rain or showers at times.

Gardaí are urging people planning to drive to the site to follow the dedicated traffic management plan and to allow extra time for their journey.

The traffic management plan, which can be viewed here, includes eight colour coded routes which depend on where you are travelling from in the country.

Drivers are advised to follow the directional signage and the instructions of gardaí on the way to the venue and not to use GPS.

The Agriland pavilion is located at Block 4, Row 10, stand 184.

The Agriland stand will also have a range of merchandise available to purchase, along with the ever-popular tractor simulators and the Ronald McDonald classic Porsche tractor will be on display.

Farmers who visit the Agriland stand at this year’s National Ploughing Championships can enter a competition win the use of a Landini Serie 7 for a year.

The lucky winner will have the free use of a Landini Serie 7 from mid-January to mid-December 2027 or for 750 recorded operating hours, whichever comes first.
