A man aged in his 70s has been killed in a farm accident that occurred near Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, An Garda Síochána has confirmed.

In a statement to AgriLand, a Garda spokesperson said:

“Gardaí are at the scene of a fatal farmyard accident near Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, that was reported to Gardaí at approximately 5:00pm this evening, Thursday, July 30.

A man in his 70s has been pronounced dead at the scene. The scene is currently preserved and the Health and Safety Authority has been notified.

“Investigations are ongoing,” the Garda representative concluded.

Livestock lorry overturns

A man was seriously injured and a number of cattle were killed in an incident where a livestock lorry overturned on a bridge in Co. Wexford, on Saturday, July 25.

Confirming the news, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “Gardaí in Wexford are investigating a serious injury road traffic collision that occurred on Ferrycarrig Bridge, Wexford at approximately 1:50pm on Saturday, July 25.

“A cattle truck lost control driving over the bridge and overturned in the process onto an unoccupied parked car.

The male driver, aged 34 years, was seriously injured during the collision. He has been removed to Wexford General Hospital and remains in a serious condition. A number of cattle were fatally injured during the collision.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are currently examining the scene and the bridge remains closed at this time with local diversions in place, the Garda representative added.
