Tullow Livestock Sales in Co. Carlow hosted a show and sale of weanlings on Saturday (September 26), with "last year’s prices fully maintained," according to mart manager Eric Driver.

Commenting on the trade, Driver said: "There was a brisk trade driven by farmers' demand, with last year’s prices fully maintained."

The mart manager noted that export buyers were active at the sale also but said several of these were "left wanting due to the prices achieved".

Driver said that weanling bullocks made from €1,200 up to €1,650/head or from €3.90-€4.50/kg.

Meanwhile, the weanling bulls in the sale made from €1,100 up to €3,360/head or from €4.20/kg up to €6.00/kg.

Sample bull prices from the Tullow Mart sale include:

A Belgian Blue bull weighing 465kg sold for €2,400 or €5.16/kg;
A Charolais bull weighing 660kg sold for €2800 or €4.24/kg;
A Limousin bull weighing 500kg sold for €2,620 or €5.24/kg;
Two Charolais bulls weighing 365kg sold for €2,000 or €5.48/kg;
A Limousin bull weighing 710kg sold for €3,360 or €4.73/kg;
A Charolais bull weighing 325kg sold for €2,000 or €6.15/kg.

The heavier-type bulls in the sale sold from €4.50-€5.40/kg.

Sample heifer prices from the sale include the following:

A Charolais heifer weighing 455kg sold for €2,180 or €4.79/kg;
A Charolais heifer weighing 425kg sold for €1,950 or €4.59/kg;
A Limousin heifer weighing 220kg sold for €1,280 or €5.82/kg;
Two Limousin heifers weighing 290kg sold for €1,500 each or €5.17/kg;
A Limousin heifer weighing 340kg sold for €1,700 or €5.00/kg.

The weanling heifers in the sale ranged in price from €1,500- €2,300/head and the lighter type weanling heifers sold from €4.00-€5.20/kg.

Heifers over 400kg sold from €4.20-€5.50/kg.
