The Krone XDisc 710 header can now be used by John Deere and New Holland forage harvesters as well as the Krone Big X.

According to Krone, the XDisc 710 was designed with short setup times, maximum operational reliability, and professional harvesting in mind.

Initially released in 2024, the Krone XDisc 710 has an operating width of 7.1m, an upgrade from the XDisc 620's 6.2m.

The XDisc 710 initially had an integrated transport chassis (which had been exclusively available for Krone's Big X forage harvester) that has now been replaced with a transport wagon.

Throughput and chop quality

The header features two cutterbars that utilise Krone EasyCut mower technology.

These cutterbars are rigidly connected to each other and are driven by a central input gearbox via universal shafts.

Each cutterbar is connected to an angular gearbox for positive-drive transmission.

According to Krone, this ensures that "the cutting unit delivers a very consistent cut, even at high throughput, which is a key factor in achieving optimum chop quality".

The rotational speed of the large 900mm diameter auger conveyor (which is height-adjustable) can be altered to match the respective intake speed of the forage harvester using a three-speed gearbox.

Krone said that this speed-adjustable auger conveyor results in an even crop flow without load peaks, which in turn can lead to increased throughput and higher chop quality.

The German company has included a star ratchet clutch in the gearbox, which it says "reliably protects the auger conveyor against overloads".

Additionally, Krone claims to have minimised maintenance requirement and extended service life through the inclusion of a positive-mode chain drive with an active central lubrication unit.

On request, the XDisc 710 can be fitted with a crop press roller and side-mounted cutting blades.

The crop press roller optimises crop flow in dense crops and prevents blockages.

The side-mounted cutting blades can cleanly cut through heavily intertwined growth, which Krone says minimises potential harvest losses.

Transport

Krone has built a transport wagon designed specifically for the XDisc 710 to ensure safe travel by road.

According to Krone, the wagon has "EU type-approval for a maximum authorised speed of 40km/h and comes as standard with an integrated overrun brake".

The wagon also has an automatic reverse function and a full lighting system.

The system therefore meets all the requirements for safe and compliant transport between operational sites.

Krone gave the wagon a two-axle design aimed at stable handling and good tracking performance, even on tight bends.

The header's unique top-mounting on the transport wagon is designed for ease of use.

Four mounting brackets allow for mounting while maintaining high ground clearance.

The mounting brackets can be adjusted hydraulically in height, a feature designed for forage harvesters with small front-axle tyres and allows for adaption to different machine configurations.
