Mayo livestock marts plan to continue with their scheduled sales this week despite celebrations underway following the end of Mayo's All-Ireland drought.

Agriland contacted three of the county's main marts in the wake of the footballing victory, to see how the celebrations might impact on trade and schedules this week.

According to Aurivo livestock mart in Balla mart its weekly weanling sale will go ahead tomorrow (Tuesday July 28) and it will be business as usual.

Speaking to Agriland, Balla mart confirmed that by early Monday there were 60 heifers booked in for the sale and 162 bullocks expected to go through the ring.

Balla mart held its weekly cattle sale on Saturday (July 25) where there was great continental bullocks in the ring, with a 325kg Charolais cross bullock fetching €1,640 at €5.05/kg.

The star sale however was the €4,280 paid for a Limousin Cow and her bull calf.

But there is an opening for farmers and agents hoping to carry on celebrations during the week as Mayo-Sligo mart in Ballina, confirmed to Agriland that it would be closing for the week.

However this is not connected to the All-Ireland victory because traditionally the week of the Galway races is taken, by many, as a week off.

Meanwhile Ballinrobe Livestock mart, also under the Aurivo banner, plans to remain open this week and continue trading for cattle and sheep.

The mart will hold its weekly cattle sale on Wednesday July 29, followed by its weekly sheep sale on Thursday July 30.

According to Teresa Gibsey, manager at Aurivo Ballinrobe Mart, "Wednesday is expected to be quieter, but Thursday should be busier again".

Following a great sale of over 800 sheep last Thursday, (July 23) it could be interesting to see how demand is impacted by the celebrations as Sam Maguire returns to County Mayo for the first time since 1951.

In the meantime there was a less upbeat performance when it came to the latest factory quotes today.

This week's factory quotes has seen most processors move to reduce beef price offers by 10c/kg in general across the board for cattle booked in this week.
