The 150th Taaffe Auctions Carnaross dairy sale took place on Wednesday, March 13 – with 153 milking lots on offer at the Co. Meath mart.
The first Taaffe Auctions Carnaross dairy sale took place in 2010, with Wednesday marking the 150th sale.
Speaking at the on-set of the sale, Michael Taaffe thanked both the sellers and purchasers throughout the years.

The weather was very much a talking point during Wednesday’s sale.
Further heavy rain on the day and ongoing issue with the weather appeared to hamper the trade on the day, with fewer than usual buyers present or active online.
The top price of the sale went to Lot 51: Ballivor Rager-Red-Et Rime 2, calved since February 7 and milking 34L/day – sold for 2,750gns.
Calved into her first lactation she is sired by Ri-Val-Re Rager-Red-Et.
Her dam Ballivor Crayon Rime (VG85), produced 11,124kg of milk with fat of 3.54% and protein of 3.40% in her third lactation.
Second highest price sired by Big Position was Lot 23: Clonwood Position Bluebell, she sold for 2,700gns.
Her dam Clonwood Secretariat Bluebell, she is projected to produce 8,215kg of milk with fat of 3.93% and protein of 3.35% in her fourth lactation.
Selling for 2,520gns was Lot 47: Ballivor Hotspot Dora, she sold calved since January 22 and milking 33L/day.
Sire is sired by Wil Hotspot P and out of Ballivor Pinterault Dora (GP80).
In her first lactation, Ballivor Hotspot Dora is projected to produce 7,868kg of milk with fat of 4.02% and protein of 3.47%.
Next was Lot 24: Clonwood Position Cunnie, she sold 35 days calved and milking 31L/day.
Sired by Big Position and out of Clonwood Jerudo Amber 3494 who is projected to produce 8,691kg of milk at 3.83% fat and 3.35% protein in her fourth lactation – she sold for 2,500gns.
Also selling for 2,500gns, was another Clonwood heifer from the Smyth brother, this time it was Lot 26: Clonwood Big Clyde Mary.
Sired by Big Clyde, she is out of Clonwood Jerudo Mary, who is projected to produce 9,060kg of milk at 4.56% fat and 3.63% protein in her fifth lactation.
Achieving a sale price of 2,480gns was Lot 20: Clonwood Position Iskova, she is sired by Big Position.
Her dam Clonwood Leif Iskova in her fourth lactation produced 10,553kg of milk with fat of 3.88% and protein of 3.30%.
Selling for 2,400gns was Lot 66: Maurill Renegade Gay, she is sired by S-S-I Pr Renegade-Et.
Her dam Maurill Montross Gaye 1932 (VG86), produced 7,868kg of milk with fat of 3.83% and protein of 3.34% in her third lactation.
Following closely behind was Lot 46: Ballivor Praser Rose 2 calved since January 16 – she sold for 2,350gns.
Sired by Vh Praser, she is out of Ballivor Crayon Rose 1667 (GP82).
She is projected to produce 8,148kg of milk with fat of 3.85% and protein of 3.36%, in her first lactation.
Next was Lot 52: Ballivor Yamaska Estatic 2, calved since February 12 and milking 33L/day – she sold for 2,320gns.
Sired by Westcoast Yamaska and out of Ballivor Massey Estatic (GP82), she produced 10,003kg of milk at 3.69% fat and 3.16% protein in her fourth lactation.
Selling for 2,250 was Lot 53, calved since January and milking 30L/day – she is sired by Ballivor Ya Man.
She is projected by 7,360kg of milk with fat of 4.11% and 3.59% protein.
First into the ring on Wednesday was Lot 1: Clonwood Berry Myra P, calved 30 days and milking 29L/day – she sold for 2,230gns.
Sired by Co-Op Aardema Berry Blak-Et, she is out of Clonwood Stonewall Myrup.

Jersey
There was two pedigree Jersey heifers on offer at the Taaffe auctions Carnaross dairy sale, the top price of these went to Lot 16: Slevoy Matt Inca.
Calved since February 22 and milking 24L/day she sold for 1,640gns.
The second Jersey heifer was Lot 86: Slevoy Matt Elliot, she sold calved since February 21 and milking 24L/day for 1,000gns.
