FBD Holdings has released its financial results for the first half of the 2026 financial year (H1 2026), reporting profits before tax of €43 million.

Insurance premiums

Insurance revenue for the first half of this year was reported as €253 million, an 8% increase on €235 million at the same point of last year.

FBD Holdings said this was the result of "customer focused strategy" and "consistently strong" retention levels.

Private motor average premiums increased by 1.8%, reflecting inflationary pressures.

The underwriting result for H1 2025 was €37.1 million, an increase on €13.7 million for H1 2025.

Insurance service expenses (ISE) decreased by €68.4 million to €188.6 million (H1 2025: €257 million).

Claims

Gross incurred claims decreased by €81.8 million, mainly reflecting improved weather experience in 2026 compared to H1 2025.

This was offset by higher frequency and severity of largeclaims year-to-date in 2026.

Motor accidental damage claim severity increased during the first half of 2026, with a higher incidence of vehicle write-offs, driven by the growing prevalence of advanced vehicle technologies andincreasingly complex repair methodologies.

In addition, the first half of 2026 saw a higher proportion of injury claim settlements resolved at Circuit Court level.

Large injury claims, defined as a value greater than €250,000, notified to date in 2026, are higher than the average over the past 10 years, FBD Holdings said.

Net of reinsurance, weather experience to date in 2026 was more favourable compared with the previous year, which included the significant weather events of January 2025.

Investment return for FBD Holdings was recorded as €15.6 million, compared to €13.1 million at the same point last year.
