FTMTA: 1,487 new tractors registered in first half of 2026

1,487 new tractors were registered in the first six months of 2026, according to new data from the Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA).

The FTMTA Statistics Service Report for June 2026 shows that this figure is a 12% increase over the same six-month period in 2025.

The report also states that the numbers of imported new tractors and machines, registered for the first time in Ireland in June 2026, increased compared with June 2025.

Tractors

56 new tractors were registered in June 2026, which is up by 8% when compared to the same month last year.

Counties Mayo and Tipperary delivered the highest number of new tractor registrations at six new tractors each for June, which is traditionally a low registration month ahead of the July registration plate change increase.

The most popular power band for June 2026 was the 121-140hp category, which accounted for 27% of all new tractor registrations.

The monthly average tractor horsepower figure for June 2026 was 136hp, and the largest tractor registered was rated at 260hp.

The FTMTA data shows that 248 imported used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in June 2026, just 12 units lower than in June 2025.

There were 1,466 used tractors registered for the year to the end of June 2026.

The Irish market for new telescopic loaders reported a 46% increase in June 2026 at 22 units compared with June 2025.

The two leading brands for the year to date, JCB and Manitou accounted for 70% of the total year to date market.

Weidemann was marginally ahead of Kramer in third place.

There were 33 imported used telescopic loaders registered in June 2026, a significant reduction from the 48 units registered in June 2025.

There was an 83% rise in the number of wheeled loader registrations in June 2026 at six units, compared with June 2025.

The report outlines that the Chinese manufactured machines at the lower price end of the market accounted for 50% of the new wheeled loader registrations.

There were five imported used wheeled loaders registered in June 2026, compared with three in June 2025.

Harvesters

The Irish backhoe loader market remained unchanged in June 2026 compared with June 2025 with two new machines registered.

There was one used backhoe loader registered in Ireland in June 2026, down from the 11 registered in June 2025.

There were 24 new utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) registered in Ireland in June 2026, compared with 16 in June 2025.

Eight used imported UTV were registered in June 2026 compared with four in the same month last year.

There were 43 new self-propelled silage harvesters (SPFH) registered in Ireland in the first six months of 2026, compared with 49 for the full year of 2025.

Seven used imported SPFHs were registered for the first time, up to the end of May 2026.

The FTMTA said that Claas was the market leader, followed by John Deere and Krone.

Seven of the 43 new SPFH machines were powered by engines delivering more than 900hp.

Cork accounted for the highest number of new SPFH registrations with nine units, followed by Tipperary with seven units.

New SPFHs were registered in 17 of the 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland during 2026.

The FTMTA statistics service reports are compiled from monthly raw data received from the Irish Revenue Commissioners, who are responsible for all first-time registrations of all new and used vehicles in Ireland.
