The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has confirmed that a recall has been issued for batches of Gouda cheese.
The authority said the recall applies to specific batches of Horgans and Marks and Spencer (M&S) Food Truffle Gouda cheese due to the presence of listeria monocytogenes.
Recall notices will be displayed at point of sale in Tesco and Marks & Spencer stores.
The implicated products, which have a country of origin of the Netherlands, are as follows:
Consumers are being advised not to eat the implicated batches.
The FSAI has asked retailers to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point of sale.
According to the FSAI, symptoms of listeria monocytogenes infection in healthy people can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
However, the authority noted that in people who are more vulnerable, the infection can be severe and can lead to serious complications.
"People who are more vulnerable to listeria monocytogenes infections include pregnant women, infants, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
"The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is, on average, three weeks but can range between three and 70 days," the FSAI added.
