Producer prices for food increased by almost 3% since July 2025 according to data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
According to the Wholesale Price Index published today (Friday, August 21), producer prices for food products increased by 2.7% in the 12 months to July 2026.
Meanwhile 'Food Products, Beverages & Tobacco Index' was up by 2.4%.
Commenting on the data, statistician in the CSO Prices Division, Deirdre Toher said: “Wholesale price inflation showed an increase in July 2026 with a 3.2% growth in the overall Producer Price Index for manufacturing industries in the month.
"The price index for export sales was up by 3.6% since June 2026, while the index for home sales grew by 0.8% in the month.
"Producer prices for products sold on the domestic market were 4.5% higher in July 2026 compared with July 2025."
In the 12 months to July 2026, export producer prices rose by 7.6%, while overall producer prices were up by 7.3%, according to the CSO.
Wholesale electricity prices rose by 14.8% in July 2026 when compared with June 2026 and were 56.2% higher than July 2025.
They have fallen by 59.9% when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022.
All 'Energy Fuels' were up by 0.6% in the month and were up 19.1% since July 2025.
Producer prices for food products declined by 0.2% since June 2026 but rose by 2.7% in the year since July 2025.
Some of the most notable changes in producer prices for food products over the 12 months to July 2026 were for 'Fish & Fish Products' (+9.0%) and 'Other Food Products' (+6.7%).
The 'All Materials Index for Construction Products' decreased by 0.1% in July 2026 but rose by 3.3% in the 12 months since July 2025.
The 'Building and Construction Index' (i.e., materials and wages) was unchanged in the month and was 3.4% higher than July 2025.
