A charity walk is taking place in Co. Tipperary on Saturday (August 22) to raise funds for cancer research and to celebrate Noreen Walsh, who passed away in August 2025.

Noreen died aged 37, following a 22-month battle with sarcoma cancer.

The Noreen Walsh Memorial 5k walk/fun run, will take place at 11:00a.m tomorrow (August 22), starting at ABP Food Group, where Noreen worked, in Co. Tipperary.

The route will take in local attractions such as Swiss Cottage and Cahir Gardens before returning to the ABP premises where refreshments will be provided.

All funds raised from this event will go directly to cancer research through the Cork University Foundation.

A second event in Noreen’s memory will take place in September.

The Rock Pedallers Cashel Cycling Club, with whom Noreen was a member, will take on the Malin to Mizen Head Cycle Challenge from September 2 to 6.

Noreen

Bríd Walsh, Noreen’s sister, is organising Saturday's event.

“Noreen was 37 when she died,” Bríd said.

“She was bright, bubbly, witty, hardworking, innately kind, and resilient.

“A massive family person, even throughout her illness she was selfless: Her biggest worry was how we were feeling.”

Bríd told Agriland that Noreen  had “so many friends” and “radiated fun and life”.

In Noreen’s final weeks, her hospital had to move her to a bigger room to accommodate the volume of visitors she received.

“Her room was all full of people chatting; sometimes there was even singing,” Bríd said.

“She had so many friends, everyone wanted to be her friend.”

The charity events in Noreen’s name, including this Saturday’s one, are in keeping with how she lived her life.

Bríd said: “She was a massive outdoors person who participated in many charity events, especially cycling.

“She worked in ABP for years and took part in a lot of their charity cycles.

“She cycled for Tesco for many years, to raise money for charity for Children’s Health Ireland hospitals. And she did a lot for Ronald McDonald House charity.”

Bríd described her sister as “a massive person to give back” and added that it is “fitting” to have these events in her honour.

Sarcoma cancer

Noreen had a rare illness, sarcoma cancer.

Bríd said: “With Noreen’s cancer there is limited research. She responded to treatment but not as well as we’d like.

“She ultimately was the research.

"We’re putting the name out there to make sure progress is made for it for people like Noreen.”

The events on Saturday and in September are intended to celebrate Noreen's vibrant spirit while raising funds for cancer research through Cork University Foundation, helping other families facing similar journeys.

All are welcome to participate in Saturday's event.

Contributions can also be made on the Noreen Walsh Memorial Fundraisers GoFundMe page.
