Glenhaven Foods, the Wicklow-based family business which specialises in frozen breaded chicken products, has been sold to Scandi Standard for €127 million.

Once the deal goes through Glenhaven Foods will join Scandi Standard's Irish portfolio which includes Manor Farm, which it acquired in 2017 in a €70 million cash and shares deal.

The Swedish group has made no secret of its ambition "to become Europe's leading chicken company" and provides chicken for millions of consumers every day.

Scandi Standard currently has operations in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Lithuania and the Netherlands.

According to Jonas Tunestal, chief executive of Scandi Standard, Glenhaven Foods is an "excellent strategic fit" for the Stockholm headquartered group.

"We are delighted to welcome Glenhaven Foods to our Irish business, led by Manor Farm, and look forward to building on the strong foundations already established," Tunestal added.

The acquisition of Glenhaven Foods is expected to close during the third quarter of 2026.

Chicken

Glenhaven Foods, which was founded by the Cahill family in 1986 and is based in Arklow, describes itself as the "home of crispy chicken".

It employs around 190 people.

Barry Cahill, chief executive and co-owner of Glenhaven Foods, said since his parents, David and Evanne, started the company 40 years ago "it has been at the heart of our family ever since".

He added: "Since my sister Emma and I stepped into leadership roles, we've been incredibly proud to experience the foundation they built, the customer relationships they developed and the brilliant team that is the bedrock of the business.
