The fifth annual Texel Twilight sale took place at Station Road Mart, in Cootehill, Co. Cavan, on Tuesday, December 29. It saw some of the highest averages achieved for this sale to date, with an extremely high clearance rate and vendors going home very happy.

Leading the way was Pat and Barry Farrell from the Oberstown flock who had a great night achieving nine out of the top 10 prices.

Lot number four, a Knap Arthur Daly hogget, sired by the €6,700 Tamnamoney Denzil and carrying triplets, sold to Martin McGuinness from the Kilcurry flock for the sale’s top price of €2,850.

Her grand-dam is a full sister to the famous Usain Bolt. The second-highest priced ewe, lot number 36, was from the same pen carrying twins to Knock Yardsman and again was sold to Martin McGuinness. The Farrells sold their 10 Gimmers averaging €1,765.

Other leading prices

Corry Hill and Macs flocks’ top price was lot number 39, a Deveronvale Aftershock hogget that sold for €1,300. The flcok’s seven hoggets averaged €1,002.

Mullaghrafferty Flock with a Gailey Bold hogget carrying twins to Kilclammon Dontrell topped their pen with lot 23 selling for €1,060. The flock’s six hoggets averaged €903.

Kilduff Texels achieved their top price with lot 32 at €960, a Strathbogie Boss hogget scanned with twins to Arkle Crackerjack. Their six hoggets averaged €779. 

Geordie Texels with a Deveronvale Alonso hogget carrying twins to Recess Boyden, the 2018 Blessington Champion, topped at €880 with four hoggets averaging €765.

Crosserlough Texels with a 5-star hogget by Nobel Boy and carrying twins sold for €820. The flock’s average on the night was €735.

Cordoolagh Texels sold a Shannagh Bartlett hogget at €720, while the Clenmad flock averaged €650 for their two hoggets.

Finally, the Grove flock averaged €606 for their pen of nine hoggets, while Glassdrummond Texels with lot 15 and 16 carrying singles to Kilduff Carlos averaged €580.
