Investigations are underway by members of An Garda Síochána following the theft of a Hitachi digger from a field in Co. Cavan last weekend.

The machine was taken from the Bailieboro area of Co. Cavan between Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21.

In an appeal to the public for information, Gardaí in the Cavan Monaghan division said:

The Gardaí in Bailieboro are currently investigating the theft of a Hitachi Ex60 digger from a field in Curkish, Bailieboro.

“It occurred between the hours of 5:00pm on Friday, November 20, and 12:00pm on Saturday November 21.

“It is believed the digger was removed on a flatbed truck and headed in the general direction of Lough an Leagh/Kingscourt.

“If you have any information that may assist please give Balieboro Garda Station a call on: 042-9694570,” the Garda statement concluded.

Man arrested in connection with armed robbery

Gardaí have arrested a man in his early 60s in connection with the attempted armed robbery of a post office in Clonmany, Co. Donegal.

Shortly after 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 11, it is alleged that a man entered Clonmany Post Office, produced what was believed to be a handgun, and demanded money.

According to a statement from An Garda Síochána, a post office worker retreated to a back room and raised the alarm. The man left the scene and nothing was stolen. Gardaí responded immediately to the activation of the panic alarm.

At 5:30pm on Tuesday (November 24), a man was arrested at an Operation Fanacht checkpoint in Bridgend, Co. Donegal, in connection with this alleged incident.

He is currently detained at Buncrana Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.
