Covid-19 remains a threat in our everyday lives and farmers are not exempt from this.

As weather improves tillage farms will be extremely busy, but safety must come first. Those drawing their grain to an intake should follow the rules set out at the given establishment, while also taking personal responsibility for the protection of themselves and others.

Simple things can make a difference like having hand sanitiser in your vehicle and using it as needed; a mask if you need to enter the weighbridge office; and your own pen if you need to sign a docket.

If you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19 you should self isolate and should not attend a grain intake.

Earlier in the harvest, Glanbia outlined procedures at its grain intakes in this short video (below).

On farm

On-farm hygiene is essential. Hand washing should be carried out as often as possible. Vehicles should be cleaned between different drivers or else machinery operators should try and keep to one tractor where possible.

If there are visitors on the farm – whether that be to buy straw, collect grain or deliver diesel – keep a safe distance apart. Click here to see how to protect yourself and others from coronavirus
