Major “on-site” machinery dispersal sale (auction) events come up just a handful of times in any given year here in Ireland; they are a more regular occurrence in the UK – thanks to the availability of a larger pool of equipment.

One such on-site sale was held on behalf of Chestnuts Farm last week (October 18); the auction comprised of tractors, handlers, implements and other machinery. It took place near Sleaford, Lincolnshire (England).

The auction was conducted by Brown & Co.

Tim Scrivener was at the sale for AgriLand; he sampled the atmosphere, captured these insightful pictures and jotted down the key prices and specifications.

A buyer’s premium of 5% of the hammer price is applicable to all lots. This premium is subject to VAT at 20%.

Elsewhere, the Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA) held a major auction of used tractors and machinery here in Ireland last month. It took place on Saturday, September 30, at Punchestown Event Centre near Naas, Co. Kildare.

Over 250 lots went under the hammer. Some were bought by punters present in the event centre; others were bought by online or phone bidders.

According to Paul Cooke Auctions, the company that conducted that sale, over 500 people registered to bid; another 100 registered to bid online – as well as those on the phones.
