Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for one county in the northwest of the country.

The warning for Co. Donegal was issued at round 11:25 this morning (Friday, March 12) and will come into effect at 3:00pm this afternoon.

The warning will be in effect for 24 hours, lifting at 3:00pm tomorrow (Saturday, March 13).

Met Éireann is predicting heavy rainfall in the county at times over this period, with the potential for surface and river flooding.

Overall around the country, today and tomorrow will be generally blustery and wet, with frequent spells of showers and heavier rain.

Today will see a mix of sunny spells and scattered blustery showers, some of them heavy with hail and a risk of isolated thunderstorms. Cloud will increase this afternoon and the showers will merge into longer spells of rain in western counties, before extending eastwards over the country this evening.

It will be cool today, with highs of 5° to 9° degrees in moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds, strengthening near western and southern coasts later.

Tomorrow will be a breezy day with a mix of sunny spells and blustery showers again, some of them heavy with hail and a risk of isolated thunderstorms.
