Groundbreakers: From hospital wards to dairy yards

Groundbreakers: From hospital wards to dairy yards

In the latest episode of Agriland's Groundbreakers series, we hear why a Co. Meath dairy farmer left nursing for dairy farming – and never looked back.

The 'Groundbreakers' series, which is proudly supported by FBD, is highlighting the important role of women in farming in Ireland.

This time around we hear from Laura Hannon who is dairy farming in partnership with her parents and grandmother near Derrypatrick, Drumree, Co. Meath.

Laura tells Agriland news journalist, Kathleen O'Sullivan, why she made the decision to leave her previous job as a general nurse in the operating theatre in Beaumont Hospital, Co. Dublin and go into farming full-time.

According to Laura she does not regret working in the healthcare profession - but also does not regret leaving it either.

Her passion for farming shines through and as she highlights its her determination to succeed that gets her through the more challenging times on the family farm.
