With just a week left of voting to go in the IFA elections race, voter turnout remains ‘good’ according to IFA branches across the country.

On Tuesday, April 19, voting will be completed and the count will take place in the Castleknock Hotel, Dublin, where all 947 branches’ votes will be counted.

Laois IFA

Voting got underway in Laois IFA branches over the past number of days and County Chairman Pat Hennessy told Agriland that there has been a “very high-turnout” in the home county of Presidential candidate Henry Burns.

Some 70 members out of 73 cast their votes in Ballinakill earlier this week, while last night there was good numbers in Borris-in-Ossory, where 105 out of 110 members voted.

Also last night in Abbeyleix, 133 out of 150 members voted in the IFA Elections while in Clonaghdoo some 58 members out of 60 cast their votes.

Kildare IFA

Meanwhile in Kildare, new County Chairman Brian Rushe has said that there has been a very strong turnout in the south of the county, with almost 100% in some branches.

Numbers have been particularly strong in and around Athy, near where IFA Deputy Presidential candidate Pat Farrell hails from.

Overall, Rushe said that turnout stands at around 30% for the county as a whole.

Dublin IFA

Staying in the east of the country, IFA members have also started to vote in the Dublin branches.

With eight IFA branches in the county, turnout in the handful that have voted so far has been good. County Chairman Laurence Ward said that numbers are around 18-25%.

However, he also said there was a good turnout in Swords, with 30% of the members casting a vote.

Offaly IFA

Offaly County Chairman John Keena told Agriland that turnout has been a little disappointing.

He said that some branches are seeing numbers of 25% out to vote while other such as Ferbane are seeing up to 50% turnout.

Sligo IFA

Voting has finished in Sligo with the 21 branches in the county voting. JP Cowley, Sligo County Chairman, said that overall numbers have been in the region of 30%.

There was a higher turnout in the north west of the county, with good numbers out to vote in Enniscrone and Skreen.
