A top price of 5,000gns was paid at the Drointon Summer Heatwave Sale during the week as part of the Border and Lakeland Show and Sale.

A total of 18 heifers were up for grabs from the prestigious pedigree Holstein Drointon herd, which is run by Andrew and Debbie McKellar of Staffordshire, UK.

The October-2025-born heifer calf, Drointon Alpha Seisme Red clinched the top price of 5,000gns.

She was sired by Blondin Alpha and came from Drointon Ryder DB Seisme Red.

Five of her 10 dams are all show-winning cows, clinching titles in the UK, Canada, and the US.

Two more of the Drointon herd's consignment made 3,000gns.

The first of which was October-2025-born Drointon Grayridge Alpha Gorgeous Red, who stems from 22 generations of Excellent or Very Good classified animals out of the Golden-Rose Goldrush line of the Pinehurst Rapture cow family.

The second calf to make such a price was Drointon Army So Very Special, a March-2026-born calf from a maximum classified dam stemming from the Derrwyn herd in the US.

Overall, the Drointon Summer Heatwave Sale averaged £2,266/head.

Ellaway production sale

Next up was the Ellaway production sale, which included 50 freshly calved heifers and 30 late calvers.

The Ellaway herd is run by the Graves family near Southwaite in the UK.

The herd's rolling average stands at 10,362kg of milk at 4.08% butterfat and 3.42% protein.

Ellaway Dreambig Wheatley, a 2021-born in-calf cow, topped this sale making 4,600gns.

Meanwhile, the March-2024-born Ellaway Morfor Judyann went for 3,900gns in the ring.

Overall, the stock from the prestigous Ellaway herd averaged £3,153.60/head.

Border and Lakeland show and sale

Meanwhile, over 100 head of stock in the Border and Lakeland show and sale averaged £3,444.

There were buyers from 21 counties across the UK in the ring on the day.

A top price of 3,900gns was given for Wormanby Eyecandy Betty, an April-2024-born heifer.

She comes from a list of four Excellent dams, all of which are high in lifetime production.

Only seven animals sold below £3,000 mark on the day.

Meanwhile, the July-2024-born heifer, Lesmay Mecca Jan was crowned the overall champion of the show by judge Chris Davis.

The title of reserve champion went to Berryholme Ferraro Flo, an October-2023-born heifer who went on to sell for 3,800gns.
