Tirlán confirms June milk price in line with 3-month commitment

Tirlán has said it will pay a total of 38.08c/L, including VAT, for June milk supplies, in line with its previously announced three-month milk price commitment.

On June 18, Tirlán announced a three‑month milk price commitment to cover milk supplied in the months of June, July and August, "barring unforeseen events".

The actual average price paid by Tirlán for June creamery milk, based on delivered constituents, will be 42.67 cpl (including VAT), the co-op said.

The June milk payment consists of a base milk price of 37.58c/L, including VAT; and the Sustainability Action Payment of 0.5c/L (including VAT) to qualifying suppliers.

The base price and Sustainability Action Payment will reflect the actual constituents of milk delivered by suppliers, Tirlán said.

Tirlán chairperson Ger O’Brien said that the co-op board has received "very positive feedback" from milk suppliers on an earlier three-month pricing policy first introduced in January.

"Dairy markets remain under pressure, with weaker butter and cheese returns reflecting strong milk supply across Europe," O'Brien added.

"Protein markets continue to perform relatively well, supported by steady demand, helping to offset some of the weakness in other product categories," he said.

O'Brien added that milk suppliers "can be assured that our teams continue to focus on maximising prices in the marketplace and any improvements in market returns, should they arise, will ultimately be returned to our farmers".

Weather support

Last week, Tirlán unveiled a €1.7 million support package to help dairy farmers offset the impact of soaring temperatures and prolonged dry conditions.

Ger O'Brien said that, "anticipating the challenges many farm families are facing due to difficult weather conditions, Tirlán moved quickly and introduced a €1.7 million Weather Support Package to assist milk suppliers and support them through this challenging period".

Milk prices

In other milk price announcements this week, Kinisla has held its milk price for June supplies.

Kinisla said it will pay 38c/L (VAT inclusive) including quality and sustainability bonuses.

Based on Kinisla’s average milk solids for June, the milk price return inclusive of VAT, quality and sustainability bonuses is 41.01c/L.
